Burghead Dolphins
One of the best places in Moray to spot dolphins is Burghead. The best vantage point is from the cliffs where the Burghead visitor centre is situated. There’s also a fantastic new viewing gallery within the visitor centre with binoculars available for use. There are regular sightings of the Moray Firth Dolphins, occasionally coming in close to feed but normally they can be spotted further out. The high vantage point means you can see for miles with fantastic views over the sea (on a clear day you can see 40 miles or more). If you have them, it’s well worth taking binoculars with you.
The viewing distance means it's a favourite spot for whale watchers although sightings are much rarer than dolphins. Seals are a common sight in the harbour. If you don't see dolphins you are likely to see lots of birdlife including sandmartins, cormorants, shags, fulmar and herring gulls.

Burghead
You'll be standing on the old Pictish Fort in Burghead and some time spent in the visitor centre (below the viewing area) will be well rewarded as Burghead has a long history. You can learn about the Clavie, an ancient fire festival. Admission is free but donations are welcome. The centre has recently been enhanced with a viewing gallery and toilet facilities.
Burghead Map
Burghead itself has a lovely harbour and still has a small fleet of fishing boats. From the harbour there are walks along Burghead Bay, which has a lovely sweeping beach towards Roseisle and Findhorn. On the other side, there is a great walk to Hopeman.
Burghead has some accommodation including self catering cottages. A wider choice of places to stay and hotels can be found in Elgin.
