Inverness Castle

Inverness Castle Experience

Before or after dolphin watching consider a visit to Inverness Castle. It dominates the city’s skyline and there are great views from it and to it. The current building was built in the 1800’s but castle structures have been situated on the site for centuries.

Following a multi-million-pound transformation, the former court house has re-emerged as The Inverness Castle Experience, designed as the ultimate gateway to the Scottish Highlands.

Unlike traditional castle visits, this reimagined landmark focuses heavily on interactive, high-tech storytelling. Visitors take a self-guided journey exploring the Highland region including its heritage, folklore, and natural beauty.
Highlights include the Tapestry Room, an immersive installation showcasing collaborative artwork from hundreds of artists, alongside dedicated themed spaces like the Map Room and Tartan Room. The building's beautifully restored Rose Window now serves as a focal point for Highland tales.

Breathtaking Views and Grounds

The journey begins outside, where manicured gardens feature local Highland flora and the famous statue of Jacobite heroine Flora Macdonald. Castle visitors can ascend to a viewing platform delivers unparalleled, 360-degree panoramic views of the River Ness, Inverness Cathedral, and the sweeping hills stretching out toward Loch Ness.

The Inverness Castle Experience is open most of the year. Book in advance to guarantee entry and for a reduced charge.
