Watch Dolphins in Cullen
Culen is a beautiful seatown sitting on the edge of Moray with Portsoy in Aberdeenshire to its east. There are regular sightings of the Moray Firth Dolphins in this area. The lovely, sandy beach, backed by Cullen Golf Course makes a great setting for some dolphin spotting. Sightings are not particularly predictable in Cullen but it is a very pleasant and popular beach town with an impressive old railway viaduct.
For a higher viewpoint, go up to the old railway line coastal path which follows the railway line. You can access the viaduct from Cullen Square where there is a car park. Walk along Grant Street, past the Coop food store. Keep on Grant street and then take a right down to the foot of North Deskford Street. There is a well know walk along the coast towards Portnockie. Stick to the paths as there are high drops to the sea in this area. This is a great walk with a chance of seeing dolphins along the way.
Things to do and see in Cullen
Cullen is a hugely popular place for local people to visit with lovely places to eat and the chance to eat fish and chips an or ice cream! Enjoy the local speciality, Cullen Skink, a traditional creamy fish soup. Cullen is also well known for its antique and collectible shops, each with its own specialities and character.
There is a great selection of walks around Cullen. You can find details in the noticeboard in the square. Water based activities are very popular in Cullen Bay with surfing lessons available as well as kayaking and paddle boarding.
On the coast in Cullen, you can also find the old fishertown where lots of old cottages are squeezed together. Some of these are now self catering holiday cottages. There is a wide selection of self catering accommodation in and near the centre of Cullen. There are a number of hotels in Cullen. Cullen makes a great base to explore the wider area with dolphins, castles, outdoor sports and more all close by.
