Hotels near the Moray Firth Dolphins

Many dolphin watchers decide the best option is to stay in Inverness when they are in the area. This gives easy access to eating out, shopping, traditional pubs and music. As well as dolphin watching areas on the outskirts of inverness, you are around 20 miles from Chanonry Point, and less to Nairn and Fort George.

The Best Western Inverness Palace Hotel & Spa was built to serve the increasing number of tourists staying in Inverness after the railway opened. It lies near the town centre, just over the River Ness. The hotel has a swimming pool and spa facilities.

Culloden House Hotel is located near Culloden Battlefield. It is a mansion hotel offering a high standard of accommodation, fine dining and is set in lovely grounds. It also has lots of history. Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed at Culloden House prior to the Battle of Culloden.

Is it best to stay in Inverness when dolphin watching?

Inverness is a good base for dolphin watchers in the Moray Firth, but there are other good options as well.

Distance from the dolphin watching spots you are going to go: Inverness is located at the western end of the Moray Firth and Chanonry Point and Fort George are less than 20 miles away. If you dolphin watching at Spey Bay and Burghead, them they are further east along the coast.

Accommodation options: Inverness has a wide range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly hotels to luxury guesthouses. There are also a number of self-catering options available.

Other activities: Inverness is a city with a lot to offer visitors, including museums, art galleries, shops, and restaurants. There are also a number of historical sites in the area, such as Culloden Battlefield and Cawdor Castle.

If your main interest is in dolphin watching, consider staying closer to the best dolphin watching spots. However, accommodation supply is less than that of Inverness. However, if you are also interested in exploring other parts of the Highlands, Inverness is a good base.
